I absolutely loved Dark Angel. I've always enjoyed Gothic romance. I held the main characters, Catherine and Gerard, in my thoughts for days after finishing the story, and that is always a telling detail for me on whether a story has delivered. Having read other works by this author, and enjoying all of them for their carefully woven historical content that allows the reader to be transported to that earlier time period, I trusted I was in for a good read. The history woven through this story was handled well. I enjoyed the aspect of the shipwreck, the mention of Florence Nightingale, the details given to dress from both the story now, and the fact that the people of Ynos Nos were from an earlier era. I knew to allow the slow build and the mystery to unfold as gently as the building fog, and enjoyed how the author embraced both life and death in her storytelling. The setting was mystical, chilling at times, dark and sensual, and the concept of Ynos Nos held me captive. The romance between the main characters was as turbulent as the seas surrounding the island and it had me rooting for a happily ever after.
Beautiful detail, mystery, and intrigue. A dark and sensual story that will capture the heart and mind.

Dark Angel Entangled Edge edition by TJ Bennett Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Definitely a Beauty and Beast retelling- but not overwhelmingly so. The book stands on its own merits. Strong story, appropriate heroine who acts and speaks in the right time period. Very good.
Finally - a heroine who is delightfully willful (I personally despise a damsel in distress/ an overly submissive/ or simpering wimps!). And am proud to say that while I love Gerard, I love Catherine more. Often I'd pick up a book to read, begin reading, and immediately fall in 'dislike' with both or one of the characters. Not this time though. Oh no - I formed an intense attachment to the main characters at once, finding myself rejoicing and dreading for the duo.
Coming from the most pickiest reader - Do read it. The plot is predictable, yes, however, it isn't a bore. Dark Angel will enchant you! Give it a try.
Gorgeous, sumptuous, and beautifully written, Dark Angel is a wonderful escape into another world. I completely lost myself in this story. I was intrigued by the prospect of the Beauty and the Beast elements, but this story felt completely fresh and original. I enjoyed the heroine trying to uncover the mysteries she finds on the island, and I enjoyed the emotional and sensual love story between Gerard and Catherine. The story builds toward a gripping ending and I couldn't put the book down until I found out how it ended. I don't usually read books more than once, but as soon as I finished, I started re-reading the story so that I can lose myself in this world and experience the story all over again. I can't recommend this book highly enough and can't wait to read more from T.J. Bennett.
I was browsing my recommendations and after getting the sample, I decided I'd take a chance on this. While the romance aspect wasn't the best I've ever read, the setting and the plot more than made up for it. I loved this spin on the Beauty and the Beast, and the fact that Bennett managed to create a unique story out of this classic really speaks to her skill as a a writer. I loved how determined and strong the main character was despite being plopped in the middle of a centuries old curse. I loved the mysterious hero, who was was so afraid to let someone be close to him, yet so achingly lonely. These characters are both so beautifully flawed, carrying scars from the past that they both are trying to atone for, creating complexities to their personalities and a kinship with one another that they can't deny. My one criticism is that I would have liked the ending a little more fleshed out. While I didn't see the final twist (which I loved), the HEA seems rather rushed. I would have liked to see an ending that felt a little settled. The story built up so much and to me, it felt a little flat. That being said, I would love to see how this author grows and will definitely keep an eye out for later works. Would recommend to those who love atmosphere in their stories, and a reinterpretation of classic with flawed, real characters.
Catherine Briton has been courted by Death for as long as she can remember. Now it looks like he will claim her when her ship sinks during a horrible storm, but there is a miracle! She is saved by a dark mysterious man when she washes up on the beach of an uncharted island. His name is Gerard and he is the Master of the Dark Island. He lives alone in a great mansion. He seems to have everything but he is tormented by secrets. The attraction between Catherine and Gerard is potent. When they are together the fire burns strong, but the island's dark past stand between them. Why can no one leave? What of the wild beast that roams the night? Dark Angel is a compelling love story of mystery and magic. I love Catherine and Gerard. Their romance combined sexual attraction and dark tragedy. Love and trust did not come easy to these two souls but when it did I was transfixed. A wonderful story that retells the tale of Beauty and the Beast. I couldn't put this book down. It truly is a darkly beautiful Gothic Fair Tale.
Gerard and Catherine's destined meeting on the fictitious island of Ynys Nos draws the reader in from the very first page. Ms. Bennett's dark, descriptive prose creates a three dimensional world that sweeps us away to another place and time--to a mystical land as familiar as our dreams. Using two historical events as the jumping off point - The Royal Charter storm of 1859 in the English Channel and Florence Nightingale's service to Her Majesty's Royal Army during the Crimean Theater, Ms Bennett weaves an amazing tale of what ifs. What if a man is held captive on an island by his powers? What if a woman invades his kingdom and forces him to embrace his humanity? What if a mere human being faces the power of death and survives? What if true love CAN conquer all?
Having a fondness for Beauty and the Beast, I willingly believed every part of the tale. Even amidst the dramatic story, the author's sense of humor manages to sneak through the slats at the most unexpected moments. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
